Artistic Fabrications

Camp Steel are used to getting lots of enquiries for large fabrications so it was altogether different for us to be asked to fabricate some picture frames to hold thin jesmonite cast panels for a local artist!

The team at Camp Steel’s fabrication unit worked closely with artist Suzi Osborn to create the frames for her unique work, liaising on colour and finish and how to attach a split batten fixing to wall mount the work as well as supplying photographs as the job progressed so the artist could decide whether she wanted extra welds on the frames and how it would affect the piece overall.

Suzi usually makes floor based sculpture and this was the first time she had made wall mounted relief work. After finishing her latest piece of art Suzi got in touch with Kieran and Martyn to express her satisfaction with the work commenting “I just wanted to say many thanks for all your hard work fabricating the framework., I'm really happy with how it's turned out.”

Camp Steel Fabrication Manager Kieran Baker was delighted to have received pictures of the frames in situ at the Medicine Bakery as part of the Forward : New Art From Birmingham Exhibition in association with the IKON Gallery where they can be seen until March 24th. He commented “We don’t often get to see the end product of orders we fabricate and lots of our work ends up covered by bricks so it was a welcome change to see our products put to such creative use and look so fantastic.”
